Getting Started

What is Jengu?

Jengu is an AI-powered healthcare financial advocacy tool. It analyzes your medical bills and Explanation of Benefits documents, identifies potential errors and overcharges, helps you draft dispute and appeal letters, and guides veterans through VA disability claims and appeals.

Who is Jengu for?

Jengu is built for patients managing medical debt or confusing bills, veterans navigating VA disability and healthcare claims, and employers looking to offer healthcare advocacy as an employee benefit. Veterans get full access free forever.

How do I create an account?

Click 'Get Started Free' anywhere on the site. You'll create an account with your email address and password. No credit card is required to start. Veterans can select the veteran tier during signup for free permanent access.

Is there a free tier?

Yes. Veterans get full access free forever with no limitations. All other users can upload and analyze their first bill at no charge to experience the product before committing to a paid plan.

How much time does it take to use Jengu?

Most users spend 10-15 minutes uploading their documents and reviewing the initial analysis. Drafting and sending a dispute letter takes another 10-20 minutes. VA claim preparation varies by complexity but the guided workflows significantly reduce the time compared to navigating the VA system unaided.

Do I need any special knowledge to use Jengu?

No. Jengu is designed to translate complex healthcare finance into plain language. You do not need to know medical billing codes, legal terminology, or VA regulations to get value from the product. The analysis explains what each finding means and what to do about it.

Bill Analysis

What types of documents can I upload?

You can upload hospital bills, Explanations of Benefits (EOBs), itemized statements, denial letters, and most standard healthcare billing documents in PDF, JPG, PNG, or WEBP format. Maximum file size is 10MB.

What does the bill analysis actually check for?

Jengu reviews your bill for duplicate charges, upcoded procedure codes, unbundled line items that should be billed together at a lower rate, charges for services not rendered, and amounts that exceed typical negotiated rates. It also identifies your financial responsibility versus what insurance should cover.

How accurate is the analysis?

Jengu identifies patterns and flags potential issues based on billing codes, common error types, and document content. It is designed to surface items worth investigating further, not to provide a final legal or clinical determination. We recommend reviewing flagged items with a billing advocate or the hospital's patient financial services department.

Can Jengu handle bills from any hospital or provider?

Jengu works with standard healthcare billing formats used across the United States. It handles hospital bills, physician bills, lab statements, and specialty provider invoices. Bills from non-US providers are not currently supported.

Dispute Letters

What kinds of letters can Jengu generate?

Jengu drafts itemized billing dispute letters, insurance appeal letters for denied claims, EOB discrepancy letters, and hardship or financial assistance request letters. Each letter is pre-populated with your specific bill information and relevant regulatory citations.

Are the dispute letters legally binding?

Jengu provides draft letters for informational purposes only. They are not legal documents and Jengu is not a law firm. The letters are starting points based on common dispute strategies. For complex cases or significant amounts, consulting a healthcare billing advocate or attorney is advisable.

How do I send the dispute letter?

Jengu generates a PDF you can download, print, and mail. Certified mail with return receipt is recommended for billing disputes. Some providers also accept disputes by email or through a patient portal - check your bill or provider website for their preferred method.

What happens after I send a dispute?

Providers are typically required to respond within 30-60 days. Jengu tracks your submission and can send reminders. If your dispute is denied, Jengu can help you prepare an escalation or appeal to your state insurance commissioner or hospital ombudsman.

VA Claims

What VA claim types does Jengu support?

Jengu supports VA disability compensation claims (initial, supplemental, and appeals), VA healthcare enrollment, and VA benefits coordination. It guides you through nexus letter requirements, buddy statement templates, C&P exam preparation, and key forms like VA Form 21-526EZ and 21-0781.

Is the VA claims feature only for veterans?

Yes, the VA claims navigation tools are available to verified veterans. Verification operates on the honor system - there is no document upload required. Check the veteran box when you create your account.

Can Jengu guarantee my VA claim will be approved?

No. Jengu provides guidance and helps you build the strongest possible submission, but VA claim decisions are made by the VA and depend on many factors beyond the quality of your submission. Jengu is not a legal representative and cannot guarantee outcomes.

Does Jengu replace a VSO (Veterans Service Organization)?

Jengu complements but does not replace VSOs. VSOs like the DAV, VFW, and American Legion provide free accredited representation and can act as your legal advocate before the VA. Jengu helps you understand your claim, organize your evidence, and prepare documents - then your VSO or attorney can represent you.

Pricing and Plans

How do I get the veteran or military discount?

Simply check the appropriate box when you create your account. Jengu operates on the honor system - no documentation upload is required. Veterans get full access free forever. Active military and first responders receive 50% off paid plans.

When will paid plans launch?

The Active Military, First Responders, and Personal plans are in development. Create a free account and you will be notified when they go live.

Is there a free trial for non-veterans?

All new accounts can upload and analyze their first document at no charge. This gives you a complete picture of Jengu's analysis quality before committing to a paid plan.

Can I cancel my plan at any time?

Yes. Paid plans can be cancelled at any time. You retain access through the end of your current billing period. Cancellation does not delete your account or documents.

Is my health data secure?

Yes. All documents are encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). Jengu is designed to meet HIPAA requirements and never sells, shares, or monetizes your health information. Access to your data is restricted to you and the Jengu service infrastructure necessary to process your documents.

Who can see my documents and analysis?

Only you can view your documents and analysis results through your account. Jengu staff do not routinely access individual user documents. In the event of a support request you explicitly authorize, a team member may view relevant documents to resolve your issue.

Does Jengu use my health data to train AI models?
